When the time of Prayer approached, those whose houses were close by went over to wash and the rest remained with the Holy Prophet. A stone mug was brought for him in which there was some water. It was small enough for him to spread his hand over it. He performed his ablutions and it sufficed for all the others also. Anas" "RIYADH AS-SALTHIN 1SS was asked: How many of you were there? He said: Eighty or more (Bokhari and Muslim). Another version is: The Holy Prophet called for a vessel containing water. He was brought a wide shallow vessel with a little water in it. He put his fingers in it. Anas says: I kept looking at the water pouring from between his fingers. I estimated the number of those who performed their ablutions with it as being between seventy and eighty.
Gardens of the Righteous, On Drinking Vessels, Hadith Number 777, Page Number 154Abdullah ibn Zaid relates: The Holy Prophet came to us and we put out water for him in a brass vessel for his ablutions (Bokhari).
